Mary is a painter who works in oil and charcoal. Her work is concerned with conveying her perception of the world using starting points as diverse as still lives, interiors and particular paintings. For example, some of the images on view came about as a result of working for many months from Velasquez' painting 'Las Meninas'.
Mary believes that art is not to do with copying or making a reproduction of what is 'out there', but is a means of conveying states of mind , memories and emotions, evoked by what is perceived. In this way, her work is a marriage of perception and imagination.
Mary trained at the West of England College of Art and the Royal College, and now works as an art therapist with young people in a mental health setting.
